That looks like the central Oregon desert southeast of the three sisters.  How good is my guess?

Old school?

There's old school, and new school, but I'm looking at this and I'm thinkin' one-room-school. :-D

I wonder if this was built to be used in parades?

Interesting find!

yard art                                                         willie buchta

Ya nailed it.  Yard art and parades.  Put some red and green lights on it and use it to decorate for the Christmas season.  The rest of the year you could wrap it in aluminum foil and keep those pesky brain waves from outer space to a minimum.   Might wanna put an extra layer in yer hat, just to be safe.

Seriously, I'd bring that sucker home if at all possible.  I can't put a finger on why, maybe just for the koolness value.  It'd really be interesting to get that Maytag motor running (if possible) and drive it in parades.  You could slap a coat of barn paint on with a broom, too.  :)  Or as a platoon sergeant in the army once asked me, "what did you polish them boots with, sojer?  A chocolate bar and a brick?"
