An event by MKM Racing Promotions may be of interest in the Mojave area on 12,000 ft of runway.  www.openroadracing.com

Malcolm,

Thanks for the heads-up. It would be nice to have a Western US area event in the early spring.

Also saw on the site that they have a relationship with Nellis Air Force base in Las Vegas...maybe an event there sometime in the future?Huh?

Thanks again,

Didn't they cancel all their events this year and close down their website(s)?

Maybe they'll have greater success in 2010.

Here's a question:

Would you rather run one mile on pavement at Mojave airport or 1.3 miles on dirt at El Mirage.

Let's forget the history of El Mirage and assume that you had a choice of one or the other, not both.

For me, keeping in mind that I've yet to make a LSR run, I'd still chose El Mirage.....

Nellis was run once by MKM but then appeared to fall due to the lack of support from the air force (and probably some racers).

As the event does not clash with any El MIrage events, why not accept both as being appropriate events to run at?  With the mile on Tarmac/asphalt you can compare your speed progress with contestants at other US events, right across to the east coast.  Then you run on dirt or salt to set records for a particular historical location.

If the flights are well priced I may come to see some from Landracing.com taking on the open road racing groups.

Temple's "Got'Cha"

« Reply #6 on: October 14, 2009, 02:01:37 PM »

If I had to make a choice it would be El Mirage. But I would like to be able to do both if the opportunity presented itself.

"Got'Cha" was first run in 1974. Bill Temple entered both 2 clubs in 1976 with records in AA/BGR. At El Mirage 201.79 and Bonneville at 220.

In 1977 Greg Temple started driving "Got'Cha" and entered the El Mirage Dirty 2 club in 1979 @ 201.97. Greg went on to set two records at Bonneville, one in 1981 at 241.848, then in 1991 he set another record at 262.230

Bill and Greg were the first father and son to enter the El Mirage Dirty 2 club. They broke the D/BFR at Bonneville in 1981 @ 241 with top speed of 249. This record still stands today. In 1991 they set the A/BFR @ 262 which was later broke by Duane McKinney.

Mojave Mile website is up -- Reserve your grid spot!

New post by Mike Borders » Mon Nov 30, 2009 12:54 pm

We are now taking reservations this week for grid slots. Entry forms aren't quite ready yet but will be soon. The Rule Book is available for on-line reading and download. Contact info is on the website, and I'll repeat the office phone number here: 702-614-6108.

When the entry forms are ready, we will start at the top of our reservation list and take entry deposits, which will get you an entry packet. Group Leaders wanting to enter their teams should have all team member's names and key info handy when calling in. (Name, address, phone, email, and car/bike description.)

Please help spread the word by notifying all of your forums and friends.

See you in March!

Anyone see how much it is to run?? I couldn't find it.....maybe I missed it???

I seen in the rules if you want to run faster than 190 on a mc you need CE armour in your leathers.

sounds like a bracket race to me----and 2 wheel and 4 wheel only ----better read all of the rules   willie buchta

front and rear brakes--suspension front and rear--required on motorcycles  ---and no streamliners----if everyone reads the rules 90 percent of you wont be going --because your tires or roll cage wont do

The cars need to be able to drive back to the pits and take off on their own without a push.  That should reduce some of the participants that race at el mirage.

You're right-on Willie...It sounded good a couple of months ago but looks like I'll skip this event and just wait until May for my speed fix...

Scott,
typically the asphalt LSR entry will be about $100/day for 2-3day events; i'm thinking they will prob charge $125-$150 for a 1 day event.

Equipment requirements are obviously different for a 1 mile asphalt course with limited shut down vs very long course on salt/dirt.  This prob isn't a surprise for most folks.

I don't know about CE armor in leathers, but my Vanson 2 piece passed tech at Texas, Maxton, Loring and am going to assume it'll pass at Mojave.
