New FIM World Record for Sidecars
« on: September 17, 2009, 02:35:01 PM »
Fritz Egli from Swiss Performance set the new record at the 2009 BUB meet at 208+mph.
A outstanding feat as this was Fritz's first time racing on the salt.  The record did not come easy, mainly due to traction problems, but a change of tires and more ballast got Fritz over the 200mph mark.
Mr. Egli, at 70 plus years young, has been building race M/C's for longer than I can remember, his products
mainly making their mark in the European market.  Last year when I did the Custom Chrome Show in Germany, I had the pleasure in meeting Fritz and got the news he would be competing at this year BUB.
At the BUB Awards I handed Fritz $800.00 in cash for being the fastest "normal Sit-On Sidecar" these dollars should allow him to buy a very nice fondue set................Fritz indicated he will be back to the salt in the future, with a longer wheel base outfit, new tire, and more power..............................................

Congratulations, Fritz and the rest of the Swiss team.  Good results - and good luck in the future.  We look forward to seeing you back here next year.

Fritz is one great person, builder, & rider.
He was smiling broadly the entire week.
When he showed up at impound the first time I asked how his ride had gone.
As if holding the handlebars, he moved his arms back and forth,
saying bang...bang...bang, like hitting the fork stops.
He smiled, and said it was a little funny feeling at around 190.

He said not to worry he would fix the problem; which he evidently did.
208MPH!!!!!!!!!

At the awards ceremony he was as happy as ever.
I think this man sleeps with a smile on his face.

Each year I come home thinking about new people I've met,
and this year Fritz was a highlight.

Fritz Elgi and his Elgi-Vincent bikes were legends when I was a kid and I have not been a kid for a goodly number of years.  From the pictures I've seen of the Bub meet I think his sidecar outfit was one of the prettiest bikes out there this year.

Congrats to Mr. Elgi for staying young and going fast!
