Mike Cook called us as we were on the road the other day and told us that the jet bike and the snowmobile will be there, along with a bike from down under (for which the Shootout had to get AMA sanctioning, and did so) as well as the Bub bike. Cars will be the Speed Demon, the Mormom Missile, and the Buckeye hydrogen fuel cell car (almost said hydrogen fusion car -- that'd be something!!). Sure hope the weather holds out nice and dry. http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Wendover&state=UT&site=SLC&textField1=40.7372&textField2=-114.037&e=0

We are not running this year because we have the record and at Bub Denis said there was no way he could get the bike together for the Shootout.
Do you know what changed with the BUB 7 that enabled them to race at the shootout? -Dean

The damage from the fire was far less than previous thought. The engine was unharmed other than a few burnt wires and the structural integrity of the machine was not affected. We ran the engine Friday and we continue to make repairs this week.

Nancy and I just chased down Mike Cook Jr. - who's setting up the course for the shootout. It's still intended to have it all next week -- no changes from the original, no need to have the event on a rain date in mid-October.
He says that as long as the weather remains good -- no more rain, continuing drying -- they might have as much as 12 good miles for racing. The course will start down by the freeway and run in the north-northwest direction -- just like last year.
Vehicles will be the Speed Demon, the Mormon Missile, and the Buckeye hydrogen fusion car -- for the cars, and Riochard Assen and his sit-on bike, the jet-powered bike, the race snowmobile, and the Bub streamliner bike.
Nancy and I have every intention of being here to watch the event for you and tell you the details as the week proceeds. Stay tuned for more RACING!

The shootout was scheduled to start Sunday, but gave it to USFRA so they could run.
Now that Sunday is off for World of Speed, is the shootout starting Sunday?

I'll wait to hear about the Shootout starting date. I'll let you know when I hear someone with the last name of Cook tell me.
As for direction of the course -- okay, I didn't realise it -- so got the GPS out of the pickup and walked a straight line towards Fl;oating Mountain (from our pit). Floating Mountain is Northeast of the pits -- so the Shootout course will be prettymuch north-south, I guess. Sorry, Stan.

I'll be leaving for the salt tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon. David, are ya still out there or are ya... btw, is this yer truck? Ohhh...this is the start of the race I shot today. Bleeve it or not, they all got thru the first turn without any major incident. The GT pack had one car spin, but the driver recovered quickly. I gotta get a new monopod (wore mine out) and some new shoes (wore them out, too) before I can go frolic on the salt. But I'm sure lookin forward to it. I'm testing the cell modem as I type this. Maybe I can get it to work a little better and not get me so frustrated...or maybe someone will have a broadband wifi setup. OSU didn't bring thier dish...they were using the same kinda setup I had...plus a router...I told 'em I wouldn't use up their bandwidth, but maybe it woulda worked better. Edit: some photos of the Grand-Am race are here: http://www.chevyasylum.com/racing/racing2009/20090919/Welcome.html

Just talked to Richard Assen and they will not be able to get back to the US in time so the bike lineup is:
Denis Manning Lucky 7
Snow Mobile
Jet Bike? Mike Charlton says he is coming.

Bummer -- down to five vehicles total. The Mormon Meteor hurt the engine too bad to run, I hear, so that leaves Buckeye Bullet, Speed Demon, and the three that Mike mentioned.
It's windy as the dickens here today -- hope it dies down by morning. We'll let you know.

Hey dude, first of all congratulations - you have made history and it belongs to no-one but you - respect I have sent you a private email (hopefully it gets through) with details. If you want me to hold the container I am sure it can be arranged. Be good to have you over in the southern hemisphere again. Catch you soon mate Rich
