Welding cable(s) has another benefit: It's commonly made very flexible, usually so with very small individual conductors in a big bunch to make the entire conductor the desired size. But it flexes very well -- making installation in a vehicle a lot easier. It makes for easier welding, too, of course.

Also the more conductors the better the skin effect

With direct current there is no skin effect; that occurrs only at high frequency. It does make it very flexible as has been pointed out and it also improves the fatigue resistance under vibration or flexing. MIL- grade wire is mostly made of lots of fine wires, usually silver plated.

Thread probably dead, but what the heck.....my 3cents - - Use Welding cable, the only way to go. What do you need when welding? lotsa amps!! this is accomplished by all the fine strands you notice in welding cable whereas in most other lines of cable have thicker strands = lower amps. Price, variety and availability, you cannot go wrong by going to you welding store, they will also have your connectors you need
