I am not sure what size fuel cell I will need to run the long course in my new Studebaker project.
Here is my Data on fuel usage at Maxton
6 Gallons used for 3 runs down the Mile course.
3 runs = approx 12 total miles
( 3 total miles wide open / 1 mile per run)
(3 total miles my pit to start line / 1 per run)
(3 total miles down long shutdown / 1 per run)
( 3 total miles back from long shutdown to my pit / 1 per run)
Now I would figue that a single 3 mile run on short course would use more fuel than 3 single 1 mile passes at Maxton (more time at WOT in high gear) but nor sure I am right..
I am thinking a 10 to 12 gallon fuel cell is more than big enough? any thoughts ?

Throwing a number at you, based on NASCAR's 5/6 mpg, I doubt you'd need more that five- unless you drive back.
Stan Back has a Moon tank no more than 3 1/2 gallons. He's over 3000 lb and a crappy Cd (St Rdstr) goes 210, but tows back. Of course, he's cheap and makes the minimun number of runs to accomplish his goals. Don't think he ever refuels. Well, maybe once every two years or so.
Surprised you haven't had many experienced racers respond. 4th of July vacancies on the site, perhaps!

I would use the 10 -12 tank because of the refueling and sealing the tank at Bville and maybe a bigger engine in the future or fuel class.
If your just having fun and not trying for a record go smaller.

Last SW I made 3 200mph+ passes, 2- 5miles, 1- 4 miles. started with 6 gallons. The tank will hold 7 gallons. I wiil not worry about fuel for 3 runs with a full tank. 700hp in a G/R. This is just info for you to decide what you need, I am not telling you how much you need. Vince

Actually, Interested, it's 5 gallons. But you're right -- I like to let it age. More than 3 runs a meet seems to be a waste of resources if you've got your sheet together (including taking off the interior injector cover).

The convenience of not having to get resealed and waiting in a fuel line is good.
Weight is generally good, wherever it comes from.

I am leaning towards no less than 9 and no more than 12 gallons, final decision will be based upon the
dimensions of the tank and mounting brackets.
