John has the right idea. Buy the stuff and return to the Larsons. Who know what their circumstances are now and they may have had to let the unit go for a very valid reason. If they don't want the items, their choice.

Actually no one really knows what has happened to all the stuff over the years. With the advent of E-Bay we now see some of it. Unless you are positive where your earned mementos are going they also could end up at a a garage sale first and then e-bay. After your gone your "old-lady" may s-can all of it. Some families, including children, grandchildren have no interest and partnerships disolve and everyone goes there separate ways.

Every time I see one of the SCTA Jackets go on e-bay I think of the ones I have in my closet along with the unopened t-shirts...Maybe I'll able to get another month at the assited living home some day grin..............JD

I know a racer (not me) that has so many trophies from Muroc, Elmo and Bonne that they took off the wood bases and tossed out the wood and kept the plaques and tags only rolleyes

Anyone know where Larson is now..?

On 9-27-08 we lost a great friend and fellow racer, he was the BEST, he helped anyone with anything at anytime.  His name is Dave Owen and he will be missed by all that knew him and I am glad to have met him.

Seeing him at Bonneville during 2008 Speedweek was the tops, Dave was in awe of the salt and as usual was there helping out anyone who asked..simply put we lost a great man who will be missed by all.

John, A big tip o' the hat to you for making the effort to get them back.  We don't know the Larson's circumstances but the trophies, timing tags, etc. represent our history.  Its a shame to lose such things.

Thanks for kind words:

After looking at the trophies I see that he is a member of the Sidewinders...who here is a current member with a roster of members and their contact numbers...?

I Googled and looked at MySpace already..any Sidewinder member perhaps with an older roster that may have a contact number..at least this way he may be able to get the personal papers this azzhat says he has.  rolleyes

FWIW - John & DW Iam with you completely. Is there a way a pool $ can be put together quickly to satisfy this bottom feeder and get this history back to the family? Iam of limited means but I would scrape up a C note for it. I think its a shame that his history of records should be lost just for a few bucks that some creep is trying to make on the back of somebody else's efforts.   angry

I'm not sure that any of us know how or why these items were left behind.  It could well be that the owners simply walked away from this and there is no attachment.  Buying the items to return to the owners may just leave them with another storage problem.

Temple's "Got'Cha"

« Reply #26 on: March 23, 2009, 08:07:15 PM »

Wow, I just totaled what the seller wants for the tags and trophies. It only comes to $11,600. I don't know what this guy is smoking but he is high, more than on one count.

I contacted him on the last auction and told him he would be very lucky to get $1000 for everything in that auction. I think the price then was $22,000 Buy it now.

Best thing that can happen is that no one will buy the tags or trophies. He will eventually learn they are not worth what he thinks they are and it will cost him money. If the seller was not so consumed with hitting a home run on the sale of this merchandise, they would do much better starting the bid out at $9.99 and selling for whatever the items brought. Some people have to learn the hard way.

"Got'Cha" was first run in 1974. Bill Temple entered both 2 clubs in 1976 with records in AA/BGR. At El Mirage 201.79 and Bonneville at 220.

In 1977 Greg Temple started driving "Got'Cha" and entered the El Mirage Dirty 2 club in 1979 @ 201.97. Greg went on to set two records at Bonneville, one in 1981 at 241.848, then in 1991 he set another record at 262.230

Bill and Greg were the first father and son to enter the El Mirage Dirty 2 club. They broke the D/BFR at Bonneville in 1981 @ 241 with top speed of 249. This record still stands today. In 1991 they set the A/BFR @ 262 which was later broke by Duane McKinney.

I might see $250 for a Micky Thompson 300 + red tag or something like that. A Rich Fox 200 + tag cost a a lot to get but any more than $10 would surprise me, if i wanted to sell.

Rich, like you we paid thousands for those tags.... seems a shame to sell them cheap.  Ours go to team members who seem to also be sponsors...  undecided
But we have fun getting the ones we get
