salt conditions
« on: January 26, 2009, 01:16:05 PM »
Does anyone know how the salt has fared this winter? Has there been plenty of moisture and is the snowpack in the surrounding mountains looking good? Just wanting my salt fix maintained.

Last I heard there is water on the salt. As far as pumping I haven't heard the start date.

Salt Conditions in July?
« Reply #5 on: June 06, 2009, 05:44:52 PM »
Hi Guys,

I experienced my first speedweek in 2007 and loved it!  This year in mid July I'll be in the area on my motorcycle and am hoping to take a rip on the flats.  Not fast or anything I just want to do a ride.  What are the conditions usually like then?  Will it still be flooded etc?

Thanks in advance,

Wes

There has been some rain in the area the last couple of days. Don't know if salt is wet or not.

Larry Volk was on the salt around a week ago.  He drove to the 8 mile area on dry salt but it got wet and slushy before the 9.  With the developing weather pattern I'd stay off the salt until there are several 90 degree days.  The forecast for the Wasatch Front is snow in the mountains this weekend.  We have had intense storm cells moving through but they stay quite local.
Larry said there were three cars stuck on the salt the day before he was out there.  With tows/rescues as expensive as they are there is no recession in the Wendover towing business.  $1,000 to go off the end of the access road plus.

I wonder what the bill was several years ago when the Coddington motorhome required 3 or 4 tow trucks.

Let me see, you have a $50-100k motorhome that is completely at your mercy . . .

You would kinda hope that if you were dumb enough to sink a motorhome that you would pay for everything, but the tow operator was dumb enough to sink his own stuff.

As to salt conditions in July, because the salt could be absolute perfection two days before you arrive and rain could put everything under water the day before, you won't know until you get there.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Update: as of thursday 6/11/09. Some puddles on the salt. Water fills your tire tracks when you drive on the dry looking salt. scattered t-storms forcasted for the next 10 days.

FYI, this is very typical for this time of year. and the water we are getting now will help smooth the salt when the hot & dry comes.

Brother, I sure hope you are right, because the storms we are getting now should have been here in April, May at the latest !     It's going to have to be hotter than the devil this july !     I'm kinda worried!   I mean , every stinking day we get more rain, this is supposed to be a desert!

I listened to NOAA, last night and they think rain will be tapering off thru the week and be in the 80's by the end of the week, However , I just hit the weather underground site and they say cloudy and rainy for the rest of the week , So who ya gona believe ?
The pressure is dropping as we speak ?     Pray for a steady 100 degrees next month !
