Max and I made it to Bendover today about 4.  Minor delay in Larimie after checking on the scooter.  As Johnboy said, we left the scooter  there, went back to Denver and made a couple of parts.
My buddies at Mountain States Automation pulled our chestnuts out of the fire with some material and an open mill.    We would have made it back to the scooter earlier but the guy making the parts (me) was really slow...  rolleyes
We met Lenny, he arrived earlier, there are a few other guys here so the crew if forming.  Headed to the salt in the morning.
To my surprise, the little racing computer found the internet at the Quality Inn.
See ya on the salt  cool

Nothing that easy... the shock mounts broke at the bolt holes.  They don't really carry much weight, so Max made them from aluminum, but the roads in CO and WY were a little harsh, Max said the trailer wheels were off the ground several times...  shocked  We decided steel was a better choice so I made them from it.
We had a minor glitch at inspection with the belts, needed a 7 point, the scooter has 8, but no cheek straps.   We found the parts we needed and had that corrected this morning for reinspection.  After chasing down an Inspection sticker, we went to the line but the wind kept us from going.  We will try again in the morning, we are second in line on the long course.

As most of you know by now, the scooter broke the Hy-Vo chain, spit a few pieces through the gears and the weakest part... the aluminum case developed a fault line and displaced itself by 1/16.  It is done for the year.
What I hadn't mentioned yet was someone stole Max's pit scooter and new BBQ grill from the back of his truck the night we arrived, and then the next night got in his truck and stole his stack of change and his cell phone.   angry

This was not Max's year...

It seems he is moving the problems to the next as of yet unknown weakest link... The chain and gear were new, to take a little length out of the turn at the tensioner... Maybe the new chain had a mechanical defect.  It is in so many pieces that it would be hard to say where it started.

Headed out to the salt to pack up.

Max and team,
Debbie and I are so sorry to hear this... racing troubles are bad enough, but to have to put up with thieves on top of it really f'n sux!

It's not much in the realm of things but a small token has been sent to your cause.

Here's a link for anyone else wishing to do the same..

Again Max very sorry to hear, and thanks to you Stainless for letting us know and being there for him!

Nancy and I were majorly bummed to hear about the theivery.  It is truly suckful that someone is low enough to steal from a racer's pit.  Yes, sure -- those types are everywhere, and don't care if they're taking form the Grand Exalted Poobah or brother scum -- but it still hurts the entire fraternity to have theft at a race event.  The crew is at the Lambsky pit buttoning up stuff -- taking their time, and enjoying what they can -- which is good weather and life in general.

Since I've never been to the BUB meets, I've got to ask....don't they have any kind of security for the pit area at night?  Seems to me, with amount of money involved, they'd have someone there to keep it safe at night.  Maybe they're not prepared for the size they are becoming.   Just wondering....

Unless they left the truck in the pits, it sounds to me like the truck was probably in town for overnight.

Just an assumption.  Either way, it' a massive case of "diarrhea."

Lynda, there is security at Land's End -- in a manner similar to how it's done at the SCTA and USFRA meets.  I say similar -- because I haven't heard just how they do it -- pit sweep at night, etc.  But indeed, there are folks there.  But as Freud said -- maybe the incidents didn't happen out here on the Salt.

The thefts occurred in the motel parking lot, not the pits.
