I remember one run in what was likely 1993 when we had such bad salt from the mag chloride spill.  Clayton got on it and the front of the car was throwing up a bow wave like an ocean liner as it dug through the loose crud in top.  That was just flat scary to see.  There was speculation on whether he was more afraid of the car or his dad but give him credit, he came back and drove it again.  That takes big Bugattis!

Well, since I am not delinquent on my dues, I'll post it again.

The explanation is with the original post.

The Lightning Bolt, a little skinned up from a little accident, possibly the run in Freuds picture, but continued racing after he changed the tire. I think Marcia raced it with the paint skinned a little

A few more of the Black Lightning

Anybody recognize the rider?  Don Vesco
Towing out on the maiden voyage if I remember right
Thar she goes....  Don almost kept it on course, stop and see Max on the salt for the story or just visit his website (hint, the first liner he brought to the salt is #3)

If that was Don's only run, it was an embarrassment.

OK finally had one view, so here are some more.  Everyone feel free to post their old pictures on here, my photo skills were limited with the $10 camera I used for years, so you real photo takers jump in with the good stuff.  (Ferd, that's your que)

The Barber-Nichols Steamin Demon was after the steam powered record.... FIA, SCTA, AAA, USAC they didn't care who timed it as long as they went faster that the standing record.  They did!  They may still be the fastest steamer...  grin

On one of the BNI record runs the Burklands streamliner ran 322mph in the 2 1/4,  on the 450 exit speed run the 2 1/4 was 341mph. Those are normal 1/4 times for this car provided the track has good grip and the car is running well.  I'm not sure about the #s but I think Nolan White had some fairly impressive acceleration at the 2 1/4 also.

Some photos I have from 1989 I think.  Markley roadster with small dodge nitro hemi that sounded very BIG.  Perris & Eaton roadster when they were running near 300mph.

I'm way behind in my reading here but if you go back to page 2 and look at the two pictures of the BlueBird, you will see real revolutionary tuning in place. If I remember correctly the car had a two stroke motor with a Mikuni carb. If you blow up the two pictures and compare them you will see the difference between the car sputtering along at 115 mph and then surpassing 150 mph. Rick Vesco came over and told Keith what to do. Anyone spot it? It made the car obsolete because it suddenly was running faster than it was designed for safety-wise.
