It was the duct tape over the scoop. There was just too much turbulence. Blocked it off and it ran great. We have tried that a couple of times on our lakester but alas it never helped.

OK you got me on the pictures not being the same meet. I just looked for the tape on the scoop. The change did occur at the July meet though. It really did perk the car up.

Freud, one down, a million to go.... you're getting behinder....  rolleyes

OK, how about a few for the bike fans
Tom Elrods Twin
Z1R TC
The Lightning Bolt, a little skinned up from a little accident, possibly the run in Freuds picture, but continued racing after he changed the tire. I think Marcia raced it with the paint skinned a little

This was posted awhile back but I was hoping for some more info on who and how fast ran the Z1R TC

I think Glen has the run logs a ways back, maybe that far back for the Z1R TC I think they had one with a sidecar also, I'll look

Richard, true, they initially just used the bottom of the airbox, that held the carb tops in place, they had too much turbulence with the scoop and blocked it, the car picked up about 30 mph... We were having a similar issue with the lakester.  Since we are using 25 year old brain cells here things get mixed... If I remember, they put the stock box back on hooked it up like stock and it really went like stink... Bo, get your dad on here to straighten us out....

In the mean time, I visited Max today and he gave me a few rare photos to scan and post.
The first is the prequel to the photos I posted, Don and Max getting ready for the first run in 1996

The last two are from 2002,
Don Vesco climbing into the Easyrider Bike with a little help from Dave Campos

Don, Dave and Max comparing streamliner notes. Don and Dave both took the Black Lightning for a pass in 2002

Some of you might recognize this little car.  It is a Fiat Abarth OTR, there were 2 or 3 of them in the US back in 78 or 79.  It had a 1 liter pushrod Abarth motor.  It was basically a Fiat 850 that was modified by Carlo Abarth for road racing.
Ben Jordan, the guy that got our team racing, imported the car and raced it in GT.  After it set the record, it was ruled not a GT car because there was a padded shelf behind the seats that was deemed "suitable for continued adult occupancy" although no one was able to climb onto it.  We towed it with the pit bike.... ya that's me on the bike  shocked

Yep.  Now XF/Alt.  Look in the Rule Book, especially under El Mirage records, for what I believe is the same car, with a lot of the same ol' records.
