I probably should have posted the streamliner when it was number 1976, then it would have taken a little longer. It became 1000 in 1979 so we could make our first Speed Limit 1000 T-shirts, the big speed limit sign was still there then. For those that are trying to remember it was rear steer, we took pictures before it ran in '79, that is why it is not scratched with the canopy broken... Here's a few more to peruse....

And an unfinished liner, inspected and did a couple of shakedowns if I remember right. Unfinished new cars were fairly common 30 years ago...
Notice it has a blower, streamliners were allowed to run a blower, without the 2 class penalty, there was not a blown streamliner class...

The unfinished car is Bob Dalton's liner. Bob bought the turbo 258 Chevy that was in my roadster when I bought it from Al Holaway. It went 307 one way as it's best speed at the same meet the Hoffman-Markley came out the first time. End of that deal. We also ran it once with my 12 port GMC and blew a head gasket. Bob claims he's bringing it back with a Midget motor.

The belly tank looks like the old Markley Brothers tank that Tony Baron ran.

The top picture is the ex-Ken Walkey Streamliner/Lakester, borrowed by Keith Young to run his I6 Chevies and GMCs. We reworked the car but were unable to run in '82 and '83 because of rainouts. Roy Creel then bought the car, set a V4 record, got in the club(as pictured). Now run by the Stewart family with V4F engines. Still owned by Roy.
Second picture is the Tony Baron car after he was done with his street roadster. I don't know if the car is in fact the ex-Markley Bros. car. I do know that for some reason the car woud take too much work to become current and Tony built another lakester.
Third picture is of course the late Nolan White.
Fourth picture is the ex-Jerry Kugel, ex-Gordon Hoyt, ex-Glenn Miller modified roadster. Now owned by Keith Young(there is that name again). This is the car that got Gordon his nickname, ask me about that sometime. There is a clue in here as to who actually gave Gordon that name.
Too bad Jack D is no longer here, he would be able to help with all this history. Maybe this thread will drag him back when someone makes a mistake.

This thread is going to last a long time I hope. It's great. Now for the newbies........ Take a good long look at the picture above of the 262 modified roadster that "out house" Gorden is driving. See the salt.... or lack there of? Remember, this is a precious resource. Take care of it and send donations to Save The Salt. I know this is at El Mirage but a cool shot of "Hollywood" Hoover and the Swain Bros. Modified.

While we are at it, here's a shot I took some years ago of two folks you all know. One is a 2 Club member and the other is the mother of a 2 Club member but better known for other salt related activities. Any guessers?
