Wester, based on the formats, I think the Camaro is a 79-80 photo and the Firebird is 84-85, they must have like the paint job since they were similar. Sparky, where are the photos you should be posting...  Freud, you are falling way behind my friend....  |

The West paint jobs are similar because Don and Mary's son was the painter. He has done some spectacular paint jobs on custom cars. Don didn't drive the car after he set the record. He built an Austin Healey Sprite with the Oldsmobile Quad 4 motor and a tall roll cage. He turned the Pontiac over to his partner who didn't go nearly as fast. That's Don standing by the car in the Firebird photo. The Camaro could easily be earlier. Don got pretty beat up in the crash of that car and didn't run for a few years. There's also a Monza at his shop that Marty flogged in the 190 mph range for a couple of years making triple the runs of any other car at the meet.

Stainless, I can account for lack of recent participation . Treit and I attended the SCTA banquet in LA. We were there to see Rocket Rochlitzer get a well deserved WHEELS OF FAME award. It was a surprise to him. Then Monday we went to Jack's Garage in Fountain Valley for our baptism regarding history. That place is a shrine and is open every morning for racing and coffee. Pets are welcome and history and nostalgia hang from every nail in the wall and on top of piles of books and documents that go back to pre-WWII. When the meeting is over the roadsters are returned to their parking spots and it resumes being a locked garage.
Appointments for having work done at Jack's are not available for a long time. The waiting list is so old that the penciled in names at the top of the list have faded and are impossible to read so they have lost their place on the list. The only way to pay your bill is with your wife's Social Security check.

When you come to consider it, these 2009 fotos are as close to Old Bonneville as we can get.
I really have no idea how this shrine can have been outside my sphere of enjoyment for so long.
Gas Up introduced me to this group when Jack Underwood and Jim Miller were inducted.
Thank You, Gold Coast Roadsters and the Gas Up voters for putting me in this environment.
It is the religion of the Lakes and Salt racers. The lakes racers were active at least 15 years before
a hot rod ever ran on the salt. It's a history to get acquainted with.
