Leo was the first with a RECORD above 200 but Don Sliger was the first with the Royal Enfields. Buddy was next in line behind him on the twin Triumphs and Buddy was faster than Don. You know what? I may not be correct with the above statement. There just aren't too many people that we can ask. But Leo did the two way in 1969. That was the year of the three Harleys, Leo, Cook Neilsen and Warner Riley. In the CYCLE MAGAZINE story about Leo that was written by Cook Neilsen, Cook stated "Leo blitzed home at over 201 and became the first nonstreamliner in the history of the world to go over 200 MPH." And I have always believed that Sliger was the first, I just didn't know which year. I think Denis Manning may know if he is done hibernating for this winter.
I'll do what I can to get the correct data. Give me a day or two.We can't ask Buddy. I think he died in a skydiving accident.
Leo's restored bike.

You know better then I Freud Daddy, and if not you know those that do. But I thought Don Sliger did it naked on the gear drive dual motor in 1970 at 203 one way (record around 193 or 194 - I have an exact number at the shop). While Leo did it faired that week in 1969 with Cook, Warner and of course Carl. Cool thing is Cook, Warner and Carl are all still accessible should someone really want to know. Todd PS: have I told ya how much I love your pics lately... ohh yeah - I did didn't I? Here's a pic of Leo's bike Deb or I took in 2000 at the AMA museum in Pickering, still LONG after I started drooling over the one you took 31 years prior that.

I figured it out. Sliger was the first NAKED bike over 200 MPH.
That had to be the deal because I know Leo did it in 1969.
I am MOST willing to be corrected.

Jim Frederick's Fly Rod Superbird. Jim was a California Border Patrol Agent who did not start racing until he was retired. Jim and Ross Sherburn ran the Bird for most of a decade up through about 1987.
