About the Burt Munro pic.....wow....memories. I was at Burts pit one day, and he was showing me around his bike. He showed me the little rectangular hole (seen in the hinged panel over the engine) and told me he had a little knob on a rocker arm that he could feel against his belly...to use as a tach.
To tell the truth...I STILL don't know if he was pulling my leg! He certainly did (joshed me good) about some other stuff, and left me wondering for over 40 years.
I'd say my biggest regret in life, is that I never did figure out how to build a time machine. Pictures like this one leave a fella' wishing, don't they?

You didn't believe me, did you?  Keep your eyes on the pit pass. FREUD Kathy is Arnold's sister, still living in New York... Punky was the other sister I think... her grandson is a member here. CRS moment... don't know if I relayed the story about them driving from New York, stopped for gas in the old camper along the way and the Banana and trailer was not there...  back tracked and found it along the side of the road... just popped off the ball in a construction area... |

I'll say it again -- we know that the Gallery has been acting up. We're working on making it reliably easy to view. As for adding photos -- I'm still learning if everyone can add 'em or if it's only for me (and selected others that I've recruited). After we know that -- I would like the "add comments of your own" to be open to all so we could easily get them with the photos. We'll letcha know.
I think I'd be wise to have the addition of photos remain inn my bailiwick - so we don't have Mr. Smart-axx adding photos of his old granny while nude swimming or something. Send the photos to me and I'll get 'em up there. Comments will, once we figure out how to do it, be open for you.

Finally, some Motion I pix. But these may have been around before. The side view says Reyes/Callaway on back and the shot of Tremulis and the yarn says Peterson Publishing. For 40 years I thought these were Goldenrod… I guess that shows just how much I don’t know I’m still looking for more personal Motion I photos from Alex, now that I know what I’m looking for (thanks, lvsalt!)…   |

i have never seen either of these pictures!
seems to me that i remember seeing pics with the yarn in place; maybe when i was at bert's and noel's shop in sacto in june of 1970.
keep 'em comin'!

true hot rodding! as i remember, strips of aluminum were used to fill the gaps. this was low-bucks land speed racing at its essence. |

ok.
i think i need to hear back from sprenger to confirm this, but i think i'm remembering more about alex and the yarn.
i'm almost certain that these two pictures belong with each other.
here's how i remember the story:
alex taped down the yarn and the photographer went down the wrong side of the course and shot this picture.
i wasn't with the car in 1969. i seem to remember only two runs on the car that year, the second being at 352 mph.
