Proposed rule change question?
« on: October 31, 2008, 12:07:13 PM »
Ok I have finally bought my project. Details are going to stay under wraps for the time being but as soon as I get things more finalized I am going to be excited to share them.

Does anyone know if a rule change that would affect my project build would happen to be in the works? Obviously since I am in the process of starting this project I need to know if what I want to do is even legal.

For the handful of manufacturers that manufacture both cars and motorcycles, such as BMW, Suzuki, Honda, there may be a few others: In classes where same-manufacturer swaps are required, is it considered a legal swap to put a motorcycle engine in a car? By my read of the 2008 rules, and my inquiry with the rules committee a few weeks ago via email, this is LEGAL by 2008 rules.

There was a rumor that this might be changed for 2009. Does anyone know if such a change has actually been proposed?

I'm really not trying to be a nuisance here but I don't want to start a project and find out many $$$ and countless hours later that my car isn't even legal!

The 2009 proposed rules are at the clubs now. They haven't been voted on so anything other than the 2008 rules would be speculation.

2009 rules should be firm I think about mid December.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

A question. Why is such a big deal that you cannot tell what the project plans are? This is not F1. It's no big deal.

Dan, maybe he is using his wife's beer money for the build.

I haven't even picked the car up yet. I'm a superstitious guy, and don't want to jinx the deal :)

The other issue is that I run the risk of someone thinking I actually know what I'm doing, and presuming that the bat sh!t insane ideas that I come up with might actually work. Can't I do stupid things privately before I tell everyone about them? ;)

Hmm...  A Suzuki Sprint (sold at Chevy dealers) with a GSXR750 engine in it running in J class?

Quick questions:

Would you need a kickstand?

Would you have to put a potato in the car horn to make it like a bike horn?

Will tatoos be required or just optional?

:-D

Seriously, as someone who has been "fun racing" for 30 years, you should always build what makes you happy, because rules change.

Well that's the idea, I want to build this because I think it will be fun. It would get significantly less fun if I went to all the time and trouble to build it and then have the rules changed to make the whole premise of the car illegal.
