Entry: 381 Kilo: 386.289 Mile: 386.199 Exit: 390.560
The kilo and mile speeds are well in excess of the FIA records, so next there's a quick inspection and turnaround, then the return run in less than one hour.

Okay -- that run started about 40 minues ago. The car is in the pits across the track from where I'm sitting, and here're a few photos of the turnaround work. Look closely at the smoke coming off the top: And Ed Shearer and others standing by with fire extinguishers, just in case: View from the other side: Aye, but here's a real problem: See the front tire? Look more closely: Did you know that Dan Warner knows how to change a tire? I'll post and let you know if they get turned around in time. They've gotta get it going in about ten more minutes, maybe fifteen, to finish the run in time.

Speed Demon back together, engine running, being pushed into position for the return run. 10 minutes left on the clock.

Shut down at the six, smoke coming from the car, emergency crews chasing, chute is deployed. Fire crew at the six and a half.

George still rolling, emergency crews trying to tell Poteet to stop so they can check out what's going on. No loud shouting on the radio -- I'd guess that's good news. Further when I hear it.

While we're waiting with you, I see the Burkland car has been taken out of the trailer and is being moved around to in front of the trailer. No word yet on if anyone else is planning to run today.
Back to Speed Demon -- course workers are sweeping the course looking for parts -- which implies that some might have got loose from the car.
Nothing futhre on the car. I'll post this and start another with some other photos.

Nothing yet on the Speed Demon, so I've spent a few minues uploading some photos from Ray Buck's camera. Follow this link to my photobucket site and se if you can view the photos. If so -- great. If not, let me know so we can try another way to post them. http://s263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/SeldomSeenSlim/Top%20Speed%20Shootout%202008/

I was talking with Mike Roland, the crew chief for the Kuryakyn bike that Leo Hess rides. Mike was giving me the lowdown on it, starting with a visit to the Salt last year for tech, a few tows to see if it handled, a low speed run here and licensing passes at World Finals last year -- then the weather went away.
And then this year, more of the same. So they're hoping to make a fast checkout run at this event -- and maybe that run will be fast enough to necessitate a quick turnaround and return run. The bike's all ready to run -- just pour in the fuel, strap in the rider, and go. Someplace in here I've got a photo of the ihnside of their trailer -- barrels of nitro and methanol.
Just heard the notice -- it's about 10 'til 2 and the Buckeye Bullet will be readying for a run in less than an hour. Safety workers are released to go get a bite of lunchor use the head.
Speed Demon is back in the pits for a photo opportunity. I'll take photos, you folks hang tough while we're gone. Back soon.

The last I heard was that Poteet was out of the car giving interviews. I'd say that's a pretty good sign. I believe I heard an av erage speed of 345 and change...but don't put any money on it yet. I'll get to work on my photos of the turnaround...which was pretty frantic as Jon's photos show. RtR

Happy happy, joy, joy! It worked and the image isn't on my server. It's taking up some room on the landracing server, but not too much, I hope.
Here are another:
Ack Attack still on the trailer...and just as I was ready to send this, the OSU net went down....and apparently it's back up again.
More in other posts.
