So the Missile is actually running against the JCB DieselMax record that Andy Green set in 2006?

Remember these are FIA records they are running on. The Bonneville 200 MPH club recognizes achievments on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Not necessarily against SCTA/BNI records. There may be records higher set at sanctioned meets that are not FIA records. I'm sure Larry Volk will answer all of the questions...Dan Warner VP of the 2 Club is there on the salt also. I wish them all the best..........JD

Actually it won't affect their record, IIRC, the JCB was AA engine, and Goodfellow is B engine. The Duramax can't be taken out that big. But the fastest diesel powered vehicle anywhere today is JCB, and Goodfellow is in striking range.

Winds are zero up and down the course, although there's a gentle breeze here in the pits (freeway end of the course). Rocky's in the bike, and last-miniute preparations are under way.
OSU crew still at the truckstop. Main/Poteet crew wrenching -- I'll get photos of the nice clean engine.
Wheeler at the mountain end, waiting his turn.
Wind up to 1.6 blowing down the race track.
Nish crew sitting and watching for the imminent arrival of the Ack bike. Ditto the Ack crew not involved in the run per se.
Wheeler pit empty. Ten or twenty folks standing around the Burkland car.

Regarding the SpeedDemon tire failures. I thought that Goodyear landspeed tires are only rated for 300. Maybe Goodyear built them specials for the car?

Canopy down on the Ack Attack bike. Mike Cook reports to Mike AKatiff: "Mike, you have a clear course".

I doubt it on the tires---most likely just shaved and trued.

Akatiff bike and Rocky Robinson, rider, in the pits and stopped.
341.186 342.720 342.766 344.510
Dan Warner hurrying to the pits to observe so the record, should one be set, can be certifiable. It's a two-hour turnaround allowance.
Mike Akatiff says it's okay for Sam to run -- not sure if they've got enough speed for the record, but they'll turn around and try again anyway.

Dan Warner is on the radio reporting that the seal he put on the Missile at SpeedWeek is still on the engine and intact, so therefore is viable. It's an SCTA wire seal -- not just paint.
Sam Wheeler is readying for a run -- will run BEFORE Ack bike makes the return run.
Full Blast bike (Leo Hess) is at the mountain end and waiting to make a full run -- waiting in line behind Wheeler and then Akatiff.
Poor timing stand folks -- keep getting asked questions -- and they're trying to eat lunch.

Deb: While we're waiting for thenext few runs, howzabout putting a remind right there, on the front page, telling folks that they can go to my photobucket page and see the photos that I'm putting up? The link to that is: http://s263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/SeldomSeenSlim/Top%20Speed%20Shootout%202008/I haven't figured out how to post stuff on that page. Wanna share the secret magic decoder words?
