Hi, if there any information on why Speed Demon's front tire failed? Did they hit anything, and what speed did the tire start to fail. Any info would be great- Eric

We'll try again. No reports on what the "adjustments" were - the ones that were made when the car started then stoped a little ways into that run a few minutes ago. The car has been squared up on the course and is ready to run.
Akatiff pit reports they're 20 minutes from running (the bike is at the mountain end of the course).
Canopy down, diesel engine running, MMissile is running, car is moving. Hit your refresh buttons for speeds, folks.

I'm going to OSU, to the Speed Demon, to Wheeler, and maybe to the porta potty. I'll be back in a coupleof minutes.

Ron Main says the front tire failed for some reason or another. Did theyhit something? Did they run over something? Did the tire just "fail"? No answers -- but fail it did. They've nounted spares and are looking for a motor. I see some pretty melty-looking power and control cables around their pit.
Mormon Missile is in the pit right next to us, refitting for the return run. "I need more Ice!" "Watch out -- that bottle is full!" (Mike Cook: "Dan Warner, you realize that this Mormon Missile attempt is a 200 MPH/300 MPH Chapter run?" Warner: "Yes, I know it".
Tower is warning land's end to keep the course closed for MMissile's return attempt. Akatiff crew is standing by at the mountain end of the course -- won't make a run 'til the Missile has turned around and run.
Oh, and OSU crew is gone from the salt. I guess they've gone for lunch -- so I can't get them to print out that email, Dick. Sorry -- will wait for them to get back and go ask.

Missile has been serviced, and they've just started the engine -- and it runs.
Missile being pushed past Nancy and me towards the return run start line. Guess about 5-10 minutes 'til it leaves. Access road to the Salt is closed/locked.

Hmmm... That British diesel went what, 341?
My ghetto math indicates they should be able to hit that with available power.

I'm 800 miles away.
It still gives me "chicken skin."
The wind is the wrong direction. I opened the windows but couldn't hear them.
CONGRATULATIONS fellows.

Exact speeds will be reported as soon as I hear them.
I'm overhearing the Missile crew talking about whether they'll run again tomorrow. The car is owned by Lynn Goodfellow, and the driver today was Curtis Halverson. I presume Lynn would like his chance at some hats, too. Curt Halverson is from Sheboygan, Wisconsin -- runs Performance Diesel Research. Geez, a cheesehead wearing a blue hat -- this will make the Buckeye Bullet folks even more anxious to get their car running.
Congratulations to the Mormon Missile crew, driver, and owner. Good job, everyone!

Tom, I don't know the FIA records well enough to describe what record they're running on. Sorry -- maybe someone out there in internet-land will chime in with the answer.
Sam Wheeler's pit has just announced they'd like to tow down to the mountain end to make a run. Missile's towing wheels are being fitted so it can return to the pits. Akatiff is hopping up and down waiting for a turn. He's going to wait long enough for Wheeler to tow down there.
Missile's official speed numbers are 308.075 kilo, 307.876 mile. Missile's owner's comments are that yes, they're going to run again -- want to bring the diesel record back to the United States -- over 350!
