Stan is right, there have been 5 lakesters that have been over 300 mph (record 312 mph) in the dirt and over 360 mph on the salt, wheel driven real hots rods. 

The first jet land speed car was designed and built by hot rodders Ray Brock and Ak Miller.

I think a car like this with a good four link system on the back would work nicely for reaching the true potential of wheel driven cars on one mile of pavement.

I believe the previous record-holder was the Scotty's Muffler lakester which is in many ways similar to what FR has presented.
