With the following admission in the ad, I don't think it meets the current Modified Sports rules. If you are going to bid you might want to check if it is legal before you end up with something you cannot use.

Tom G.

BODY:

HIGHLY MODIFIED DEVIN BODY
NARROWED 4 INCHES
SHORTENED WHEEL BASE
FILLED GRILL OPENING
MODIFIED COWL
FILLED DRIVERS SIDE DOOR
HARD TONNEAU
EXTREMELY MODIFIED REAR BODY WORK
FULL BELLY PAN
CONSTRUCTED OF ALUMINUM AND FIBERGLASS
I love the USA. How much longer will we be a free nation?

Asking questions is one's only way of getting answers.

The rational person lets verified facts form or modify his opinion.  The ideologue ignores verified facts which don't fit his preconceived opinions.

THe car at its current state will not legal and will require a good deal of work before it will pass tech and conform to the MS class.

"EXTREMELY MODIFIED REAR BODY WORK"

MS require the car to be unaltered with the exception of minor trim behind the cowl (back half of body).

It would be a good platform for someone to start from....but it is not a turn-key salt car.

I remember this on ebay about 6 months ago. I may have the original engine.

it's an oddball, 180 cube (3 liter), and I can't find the casting number in any Chrysler lists (2121474-3)

If anybody is REALLY interested in this car, I live about 30 minutes away.  If you can get the seller's permission and phone number, I might be willing to take some pics on your behalf, but please, only if you're serious.

It appears to be at Crites Field in Waukesha.

I suspect it won't sell through the auction.

It's a shame the rear of the car was butchered - the original lines were beautiful.

The fact that the car has an unusual CID and engine number re: slant sixes (170, 198, 225) and that it's a midwest car makes me wonder if it wasn't a semi-factory backed machine-

Maybe someone needs to contact retired Mopar/Shelby engineer /awesome rally driver/landspeed racer Scott Harvey.

POSSIBLY he knows some history of this car.

Interesting thought, but the car's history - Bonneville, Lions and Riverside - plus the Devin "factory" being in California - would cause me to think it was more west-coast than third-coast.  I suspect it just wound up here.

I've seen a pair of restored Devins at Road America.  The production engine was a small block Chevy, and later, Devin produced a pseudo "kit" car based on the Corvair.  I doubt if enough of ANY of these were built to qualify as a GT under current rules, and in this case, the modified sports class would not allow for the width to be altered.

Essentially, you'd be buying a Singer chassis set up for a slant six and the rather exotic remains of a footnote in sports car history.

Hmmm . . . now that I put it in those terms, it DOES sound interesting.
