We aren't shut out.

The Salt Flats Cafe has reopened at the airbase.

A Wendover local just finished eating there tonight.

At least there will be parking available.

YAHOO  !!

Tracy Woofinden, daughter in-law of the late Bill Woofinden,

pilot of the air ambulance for many years, ate there tonight.

That will be one good meal I can count on, but you have to think that location will kill the chances for drive by traffic like they got out at the truck stop.

I have considered that and I don't think the population of Wendover can carry it.

Oh well we just hope it survives thru the racing season.  I know that the location

drew a lot of the racers but they will go find it in town. I just can't see the 18 wheelers

driving thru town to frequent it.

Okay - just where out at the airport?  Behind the fences?  How about maybe we'll be lucky and it'll be in the building that's hosted Mildred's and countless other restaurants?  That one's easy to find.  But - where else is there back there?

I'm gonna take an EWAG and posit that non-commercial traffic from I-80 (Mom and Dad and the kids) made up a pretty small portion of the customers at the old location.  The site was pretty un-presupposing (*hunh?) of a good meal - or, in other words, if you didn't know about it you probably didn't stop there.  Truckers and other cognoscenti with time in the area knew where to go.  And they'll, assuming traffic allows, will find the new location.  Lots and lots of semi trucks drive down Wendover Blvd already - and if it isn't far off the main drag they can find the Cafe, too.

I hope.

There seems to be some discrepancy in the

location of the new  cafe. It may not be as

far as the base. It could be the place on the

west side of the road to the airport. It has

been used by several other food services.

Across the tracks , on the right and up

several steps. I just don't remember the

names.  Anyhow.......it is open and we

will find it.

Their Facebook page now lists an address of 85 East Skyhawk Drive.  Google Maps shows that as the closed "Los Compadres" location, about a block and a half west of the airfield.  Looks like a great location, if you know about it.

Just look for the place where the parking is full. That will be it.

Sounds like it's the place I was thinking of.  Good -- easy to get to, walking from Wendover Blvd motels isn't out of the question. either.

And maybe the bunch of bad karma that has hindered so many proprietors in that building - will be all gone now and Marcello and his gang will make it all work.  I sure hope so. cheers

Nancy and I ate there at least once or twice when in town - and we always found a different restaurant for us (in the same building) the next year.  I'm tired of that variety. rolleyes

Is there more seating in the new building?  The truck stop cafe was usually packed when we stopped.  The food was totally worth the wait though!!!

The purported new location has got similar amount of seating, maybe some more -- but not radically more.
