Mens leathers wanted
« on: March 04, 2017, 07:52:13 AM »
Hi,
I built a turbocharged Yamaha R1 (MPS-BF) for the 2017 Bonneville season and having a hard time finding leathers. Maybe somebody has a set that will fit me.
I'm 6'4' and 220lbs.
best regards
Jim

Jim, if you have to break down and get a new suit, Z Leathers makes custom-fitted leathers for about the cost of on-the-rack outfits - and they'll be made to your measurements.  I think the address is  zcustom dot com.

If you buy any suit make sure that it will meet the rules for the venue(s) you are going to. Most suits sold have perforations and fabric panels and will not pass inspection. As Jon said, it is best to have one custom made to fit. Just make sure you give the tailor the rules to make sure they don't build it like they do for street or GP racers. Those suits will not pass and you will have wasted your money.

Z Custom knows about the various rules for different venues and racing styles - will make yours rule-compliant if you specify.  The measuring process You do at home, if you want) will ask what you'll use the suit for - and there's where you start the LSR rules conversation.

Making sure the suite is compliant to the rules is very important. Keep in mind that most motorcycle racers aren't 6'4", so you may waist a lot of time look for a compliant suite that fits you.

Bates, is where I had mine made, not because of price, but because they know exactly what had to be done per SCTA rules. SSS, knows a lot more about the leathers requirements at Bonneville than I do, and he has suggested a good company too.

If you plan to run AMA their rule may very, but if your suite is good enough for SCTA it will pass inspection for anyone running at Bonneville.

You can also check out Barnacle Bill at RacingLeather.com   Knows exactly what is required for LSR and his prices are great.  Or NJKleathers.com    Both are excellent.
