Step Pan on FALT or GALT
« on: September 01, 2016, 03:15:08 PM »
I am considering the addition of a "step pan" on my C/FALT.  Can anyone speak to the effectiveness of this modification.  Most cars run a very low front air dam which would vastly reduce the amount of air flowing under a car anyway.

You have pretty much explained it to Yourself.  The rule was written before the front Air Dam's were made legal in the early 2000's.  On a comp coupe where underside strakes are allowed it might be a different matter (having a full belly pan).

Agreed. There will be a small drag improvement even with the airdam, just because you are cleaning up the underside and controlling flow. But a large airdam will really reduce the flat underbody shields effect to a point where you probably wouldn't notice any benefit. You might see more lift effect depending on how you do it. But it does risk getting you into pitch sensitive issues where a small increase in ride height results in a large swing in front downforce.

What is a "step pan"?  Is this the same as a belly pan?
