I stayed at the Rainbow this year and found it just downright nasty.  $200 a night with a six night minimum!  The front desk did admit that the west wing was a little nicer, but that was full, or possibly reserved for non-racers.  Any tips on nicer accommodations, does anyone like the Gold Nugget, or Montego Bay?  Thanks in advance.

I'm hoping to some day have a motor-home or travel trailer.
Until then, the Singh Bros at Knights' Inn have treated me well.
I've not found the cockroaches that the French owned Motel 6 is famous for, nor the soiled linen from a previous tenants "Romp in the hay" that my lady and I encountered at Days inn.
The Choice outlet is
OK, but the manager is a real twerp.

A note: All the casinos are owned by the same syndicate (Mythical Italian outfit.)
Best Value was great until they were given enough grease money to sell out to Red Garter, which became part of Nugget.
If the food quality of Nugget carries over, watch what you ingest.
Subway was open 24/7 during Speed Week; no guarantees for future, but you can get a descent steak sandwich breakfast gut bomb that can be eaten at 80 MPH with one hand.

Avoid The Burger King, unless you have been deprived of SALT. Also, the service is pretty slow for a so-called "Fast food" joint. Good Coffee at Pilot, truck drivers are somewhat picky, and the turnover keeps it fresh.

May share more as it comes to this feeble mind.

Rich I wish you had come around to the elite side, rooms 155, 156 and 157.

I would have met you face to face.

I'll search you out next time.

Will you be a WOS?

Rich, Sorry I missed you...I was in 223. Found it clean every day and I stayed 8 days. I don't track salt in the room.

Best thing this year is I rented a Kia Forte (POS but great mileage with Sirius radio) from Hertz 2blocks from home $234 for 9 days......JD

Guys, I haven't been to World Finals since 07. Are the rooms still cheaper during that event? We are coming out to help Jerry Hoffman with his entry.

Yes, the rooms are regular prices for all the events except Speedweek.  And maybe BUB, but I've never been to that one.

The problem is that ALL the rooms in Wendover suck!  The casino rooms themselves are decent, but they have no amenities, since they want you down in the casino to drop your $$$$.  The rooms on the Utah side are pretty ratty, but they're more convenient than the ones in the casinos.

I stayed in the one with the rest of the SCTA/BNI officials and volunteers at Speedweek.  It wasn't too bad, but it's the only motel room I've ever seen with no chairs or table.  The only place we had to sit was on the bed!

Too bad there's no Homewood Suites or Residence Inn there!

I haven't always found that to be the case in the past.  Was really screwed around once by I believe past owners of Motel 6.  Hope you are right this year.  I'll soon find out if we can make World Finals,

Last Thursday I booked a room at the Knights inn (09/30 thru 10/05) for less than $165 total.  Did it thru Orbitz . . .

All the rooms are normal price now.  They only gouge the racers during Speedweek and I DO mean ONLY the racers!!!  Show up unannounced with golf clubs in hand and you can get normal rates even for Speedweek!!!!

All other events stay normal price during racing, but the prices do go up for the weekend, every week, year round.  Cheap chubberwalkies!!  Still, I have to be careful what I say...I work for the Corporation and they pay my bills....aaaaand it keeps me close to the salt!!!

do not know what the red garter is like now.
wasn't much to write home about when passing thru in July of 2006.

when racing I've always stayed at the Nugget and have been happy.
the Mexican food on the east side of the casino floor was okay.

it's always a treat catching the taco truck at Smiths or the (same?)
one on the Utah end of town by the pawn shop.

the rainbow buffet is great. did not care for the seafood buffet at the Montego.

I stayed in the Red Garter this year.  It was clean, fresh towels every day.  The food in the restaurant was good and the service friendly.  Don't know what more you need from a hotel but I had no complaints.

Nancy and I stay at the Quality Inn during SpeedWeek and WF, and we don't have any issues at all - other than it took a few years to learn how to get along with Jaime, the proprietor.  But now he's fine with us -- doesn't even need to be told our name when we get there to register.

There's an easy chair in the room and a writing desk with office-type chair on wheels.  Our room doesn't come with a 'fridge, but we take one and plug it into the outlet -- and that's fine, never having any complaints from the management.  Back when we took a deep freezer full of pasties -- Jaime helped us.  So - no troubles with the QI.  The street sign advertises $59.95 for weeknights.  Pretty good hot breakfast, pretty weak coffee.  The ice machine works, the A/C works, and the management is quick to fix anything that goes wrong.

We also stay at the Motel 6 for WoS and the Shootout.  The coffee is good, the room is small but okay, and the 'fridge works in there, too (although there aren't enough outlets -- take a multi-tap with you).  No issues with critters or unclean sheets.

Now the caveat:  We stay in lots of motels each year, and have become sorta easy to please.  If the place is clean and the bed not too bad and the shower and TV work - that's good enough.  Not that I'm giving you BS stories about the 6 and QI - just allowing that maybe we're more forgiving than you might be.
