Don't see national news items regarding goings on in Wendover often.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/01/03/feds-join-manhunt-for-dangerous-duo-suspected-killing-elderly-couple/

Car jacking in a West Wendover casino parking lot results in a shooting and man hunt for double homicide suspects.

Utah still has firing squad ... seems fitting to me ... If they can arrange it around SW, I will be happy to attend the execution.

I had to attend a "lottery" for the television station I worked for and represent them. The winning media outlet got one person inside the gallery for a high profile execution here. I would have no problem flipping the switch but attending that lottery was creepy.

Wendover has a fair amount of crime being a border town with a large population of hotel workers. They have raids every so often. It's a shame they didn't co join the towns a few years back like many wanted. Three ways out two on the Nevada side and one on the Utah side with Wells being the next closest town west at around 60 miles. Lot's of dirt roads to hid on. But you better be prepared at survival in the desert.

Gets me to wondering about being there with my Grandson. Places to be/go and places not to, especially being our first time out. Staying at one of the casinos in West Wendover.

Bjohnny, it's not like you're visiting Milwaukee.  grin

Keep your wits about you, lock the car, and you and the grandson will have a great time.

The only crime I've heard of after 20 yrs of Bville in ''Wendover for Speedweek'' is theft of tools ect. out of backs of pickups and then rarely.

Of course as stated above you have to keep your wits about you were ever you are these days.

My first year going to SW was in 1997, we stayed at the Nevada Crossing. We came out early in the morning to go to impound. Jack says, "your truck is gone, someone stole it." We looked around and he was looking in the wrong location. It was still there, but it sure scared me. Then, in 2000 we took the 1950 Buick to SW and stayed in the State Line and parked in the parking building on the top floor. When we came out to leave town, someone had bashed in the right quarter on the bed of my new (March 2000) Ford F-250. I went to the lobby and told them, but got nowhere with them. That's the only problems we have had at Wendover, we have stayed at the KOA for many years without any problems.

Trouble with that though.... the crime seems to have taken place in Nevada so I don't think Utah's marksmen will get a chance to show how straight they can shoot...

We can't carry smith and wesson or anyone else's "enforcers".... we would suddenly be the criminals ... being that we are from a foreign country and all... but I do make sure that one my little grandson's baseball bats, kid's ball gloves and a couple of kid sized softballs are always "forgotten" in my truck... the 24" kid sized bats are really easy to "teach one handed swing technique to the little kids" wink
