Winters Quick Change question
«
on:
January 02, 2012, 07:08:22 PM »
I have a question about my Winters Quick Change.
This is a used quick change I bought. I am cleaning it up and inspecting it before I install it. In the picture the axel is upside down on my bench because it has an oil pump and the lines are on the bottom of the diff. I intend to make a rack that I can rotate when I put it back together.
The picture below shows the 2 of the 8 axl tube bolts. If I remove these 8 bolts will the axle tube slide out with out a lot of trouble or is it a press or drive fit into the differential bell?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Turn the axle on end, soak the swedge with Kroil for a day, hit the housing with a neutral flame torch and it should be a snap. A chain pipe wrench might be needed to pop it free.

Bob,
Thanks. I assume same proccess to reinstall. Maybe a 2x4 and some taps on the tube end to seat it in the bell?

Wheeler, Use some antiseize when you reinstall the tubes, and if you are going to run it on the salt, clean the joint afterwards and apply a bead of silicon before "Bonneville Loctite" sets in..................... Good Luck.

TMan,
That is slick. I like it.
I talked to the winters poeple today.. super nice. Just gave them the serial number and they told me everything about the quick change as it left their facitlity. All the parts and seals are on their way.
Bob, will do on the anti-sieze... I learned that lesson this year. That "Salt Tight" is tough to break.
Thanks,
Bill
