With the kingpins on opposite sides the scrub radius of one cancels the other . Some builders mount them on a common beam which makes them staggered .

Most of these tandem front ends have evolved from Al Teague's Betsy, Spirit of 76. I believe the first one to pop up was
Karl Fijastad's(spelling)  liner with no suspension & the wheels in line. On Betsy, the wheels were actually offset from each other by about 5 inches & swung on short axles & torsion bars on oposite sides of the chassis. I believe the rule explains there must be at least two in the front & two in the back, to exclude single front wheel. Hence some 6 wheel creations.
