First off thanks to the ECTA Staff and Event Volunteers for without whom we could never race... Through the years, good weather and bad, tragedy and triumph they have put on a great venue for us all... I know this high level of commitment and professionalism will continue as we learn and adapt to our new home in Wilmington Ohio.

Post here to share your pics, videos and stories from the Final Maxton Monster Mile Event and any other Maxton History or Stories you care to share.

For many of us Maxton is and was the start of our Land Speed adventures, we paid our dues and learned from the Bumps, the Patches, The Seams, the Dog Legs and  Uniqueness that was Maxton....

Post here so We will remember the Old Air Base  here , now and  forever...

Okay, I was preoccupied, but Kate ran off and came back with this pic.  Who's car is this?

I'm seeing 3 exhaust and carberation on the drivers side on an OHV 4-popper - I just want to know if somebody else other than myself was running a Moggie.

And it's gratifying to know that I'm not the only one working in tight confinement.

A fistfull of pics, courtesy of Mrs. Midget . . .

An engine shot of Pat Z's very hip Trump flat tracker . . .

Mark Wolbrink and his lovely consort, Tara . . . and yes, that is a dirt bike, and yes, it runs a buck and a quarter . . .

One very fat cat . . .

In 1970, the local Plymouth dealer, First Avenue Plymouth, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was a regional dealer distribution point for Plymouth in the Midwest.  For about a two week period, they had over 40 Superbirds on their lot.  I was 10, I knew that in 6 years, I would have a driver's license, and try as I did, I could not talk my dad into buying one.  This SHOULD have been my first car . . . Thanks a lot, dad . . .

Some famous NASCAR guy . . .

I'd like to focus on this one a minute.  I met Gerald at Bonneville a number of years back.  He was racing a Crosley sedan in production at the time.  A few years back, his team put together this Crosley Super Sports, which owns the J/GT record at Maxton.  Judging by the spoiler and the cut-down windshield, he's stepped out of production and into modified.  If you ever get a chance to really take a close look at this car, do so - the workmanship is outstanding.

An absolutely grand adventure, this trip.

Midg - That first circle track car ain't no 4 cylinder!  It's a 250 Chevy six, HIGHLY modified.  I run a 250 in my Camaro and have an interest in the above.  Not sure how his exhaust is laid out but it WORKS and sounds awesome.

The old NASCAR guy is the legend Dave Marcius.  Great guy.  Among other things he's known as Earnhart's tester - tires, etc.  He's been a racer since the time when there was "stock" in stock cars - 50 years or so.  One of the guilty pleasures I had this meet was watching him warm up the engine and picking up minute potential issues that mere mortals wouldn't have heard.  The guy pushing and steering is Dave.

Charles,

Just watched the photobucket video. Wow that C motor has some torque. Definitely roasted the tires 1-2 and 2-3. Sounds great.

Bill, I think this is the run you watched,,, 191.006 mph... I tried to feather the throttle,, but can't give it 100% in 1st or 2nd gear.

Spinning the tires in the lower gears is what happens when you make more power on a cold track ... the head wind didnt help either.
Ohio will be the place for 200 mph ...

Joe, I agree with you,,, But I am bringing more power, more gear and better tires to Ohio..

I am going for the tripple header in 2012
200 Club ECTA
200 Club LTA
200 Club SCTA

I did not say I would make all 3 clubs,, but it is my 2012 GOAL  (and I would like the do it "my way"  N/A on Gas)

See you in April.
