I got my invite to go to Las Vegas and collect my recognition for holding a landspeed record. I also received an invitation to bring a bike or 2 for display in the Concours show. They did not sent gas money!
I am not going but thought it would be fun to see if any of the board will be there........and could they report the event with pics?

Regarding awards, I received my certificates in the mail as well as a request for $20 from AMA to send me my "awards" if I couldn't make it to the ceremonial dinner. Gal on the phone told me they would be a personalized plaques?? I sent in my $20, just to see what these personalized plaques would be. Nothing yet, but I think I told them to send them to my Colorado address, as I suspected they wouldn't want to pay the postage to Canada ! Tom

I attended the Vegas AMA event. I left the camera in the room.......on purpose.
I've missed out on many chat sessions by being dedicated to the fotos.
I was there because of Phil Schilling who was the editor of CYCLE Magazine for 8 -10 years.
He has balls enough to approve a story that I did on the island of Molokai with two scooters and a helicopter.
Cook Neilson and Kenny Roberts were my models and Bob Lee from Kenai Helicopter was the pilot.
My son, Gary, was my right hand man and w/o him it may not have happened.
The entire adventure was "on the edge" for the entire time.
Phil enjoyed the story but not the heart burn that Cook, Kenny and I generated for him.
In the middle of the presentation the fire alarm rang for 10 - 15 minutes. Many people just left but
the event was concluded after the alarm was silenced.
The two images: Eddy Lawson, Phil Schilling and Kenny Roberts
The TX750 Yamaha that Kenny rode at Indy and San Jose. This is the personal bike of Ray Abrams,
the man that built them

I live in Las Vegas and am an exec. for Stations Casinos which owns Red Rock Resort where the AMA awards were held. That said I had to be in London on business and had to miss the event which was a drag. I set the vintage 1350 production class record this year on my 1953 Indian Chief and did receive the swag from the AMA for my record. It was a cool number plate with my record on it, as well as a couple decals with the same info and a medal. For $20 shipping not a bad deal.
I'll be back at BUB to try an up the record this year. The secret this year is to lose 40 pounds. I figure that's worth at least 5 mph! See everybody at BUB in August.
Happy Trails,
"Nevada" Bob

Bob, If your diet is unsuccessful I have a 110 lb rider that could probably up your record 10 mph more for you!!!

I'm on a similar weight-loss program........not a diet. It would be nice to get down under 200 but I would still be 30 lbs. heavier than my bike! I'm still waiting for the my #1 plate. It must be in the mail because they cashed the check.
