It has been brought to our attention by several outside parties that our tag line "the future of land speed" is considered by many to be highly offensive, arrogant, and belittling to the long and storied history of LSR around the nation.  It has conveyed to me that the 60 year history of Bonneville, Muroc, El Mirage, ECTA are all a thing of the past and all of the literally hundreds of thousands of hour of nurturing and developing the LSR community (the best bunch of people I have ever met) has been cast asunder and that our brash statement is an affront to countless LSR racers. (I had a long time racer tell me he won't buy a 2-club shirt because the tag line is on it.)

The best response I can give to all of you is that it is a tag line is as my salesman says, "sell the sizzle, not the steak."

We are therefore asking for your input on the matter.  Logical input please. Not a Pi$$ing contest.

Here are some of my ideas:
LTA - Wide and Flat just like Tim Kelly's A$$   grin
LTA - Speedtown USA
LTA-Go like Stink
LTA-Got Land Speed?
LTA- We apologize for being so fast.
LTA- Speed and Moose live here.
LTA-Don't worry,be happy - You'll got faster (or blow up trying)   cry
LTA-  The best piece of A$$-palt I ever had.

Now I realize that some of these are a bit tongue and cheek, but we are here for you, and we want you happy.

You input and ideas are greatly appreciated.

All the best.
($5 says Charles V chimes in first.)

Please not so funny so soon. My back surgery just howls when I laugh that hard

in the nature of a collaborative effort:
"wicked fast chummy"
or "wicked fast mista man"

Haha! It's all good- I just couldn't resist!

I guess I don't see it as belittling to the 60 year history of Bonneville, Muroc, El Mirage, or the ECTA. That history is there, and you can never undo it, let alone by the use of a tagline phrase. Racers will continue to use the old, historic venues, as long as they are available to use.

Of course, I'm new to all of this, and don't pretend to speak for the masses!

Muroc is already gone, and the salt dwindles every year. Hopefully, Save the Salt, and a push by the users can help maintain at least the status quo at Bonneville, but who knows what the next 20 years will bring?

I just hope your tagline isn't prophetic, and remains just a sales pitch to sell interest in LTA!

Wide, Flat, and Wicked Fast.

And while I'm at it - bring back the black [don't show the grease marks as bad while wrenchin'] event hats with a Moose logo.

Tim, I dont find it at all offensive. Good salesmanship! As was said who knows what the future has in store for us.

I am a hard core Bonneville racer. But I spectated at your event this year. I had a great time, saw history made, 311+ on a sit on bike. I will be there, with two bikes, racing next year.

My only concern with ANY promotional campaign that declares "the future", is that they're invariably jinxed.

The Corvair was the "Car of the Future".

The RCA Quasar was "The Television of Tomorrow".

Yeah, yeah, yeah, and nuclear power was going to be so cheap that they wouldn't have to meter it.

To heck with the offense some wags might be taking, I say lose that tag line before you do any real damage.  wink

No future, eh?  Ok, how about "Not your father's (?grandfather's?) Land Speed Racing"?

Sure, Max -- but head there knowing that Nancy and I have yet to make our inaugural appearance at Loring.  As always I say -- maybe next year.  Our common problem is timing -- in July we're preparing to leave the laser engraving store for a few months, off and on, and we use all the time just preceding that to catch up on everything we can do.  But still -- maybe 2012.  I'm sure the audio would be welcome.

By the way, I've just attempted to contact a potential sponsor for the audio casts.  I'll tell you off-line who that is -- and apologise hre to the rest of you that want to know some of the machinations of running this fine website.
